BTC provides equal educational opportunities

BTC provides equal educational opportunities to all students including non-traditional, disabled, economically disadvantaged, educationally disadvantaged and those with limited English proficiency. We actively encourage women to look at non-traditional, well-paying careers in the technological and industrial trade areas. Likewise, we are supportive of men who are considering less traditional careers in human services and business. Students enrolled in a technical program receive support for technical, employability and academic mastery. Support services offer a variety of flexible programs to help students with disabilities and special needs. Parents, teachers, or students themselves may request this assistance.

This district does not exclude or deny participation in any program or activity to any individual(s) based on race, creed, national origin, gender, religion, age, disability or sexual orientation in compliance with state and federal laws. District Coordinators for Title IX, Title VI and Section 504 are at:

This Web Site is Compliant

Valid XHTML 1.0!

This web site was developed to be compliant with W3C standards for XHTML 1.0. What this means, in plain English, is that burlingtontech.info is:

  • Easier to maintain
  • Accessible to all internet devices
  • Contains cleaner markup for greater expansion capabilities

If you are interested in using similar technology for your own web site, you should consider reviewing the excellent resources made available by the New York Public Library at The New York Public Library Styleguide.

Section 508

US law “requires that individuals with disabilities, who are members of the public seeking information or services from a Federal agency, have access to and use of information and data that is comparable to that provided to the public who are not individuals with disabilities, unless an undue burden would be imposed on the agency.”

With this in mind, burlingtontech.info has implemented the following strategies:

  • If stylesheets are ignored, the content is still accessible
  • When color is used to convey information, the also represented in another way
  • Important information represented in images are also represented in their alternative text.
  • The document's language is clearly identified
  • All pages are accessible (due in part to adherence to W3C XHTML standards mentioned above) so no alternate pages are required
  • Straightforward language is used
  • Event handlers which require a mouse convey information that is available through other means (like titles)
  • Stylesheets (CSS) are used to convey layout and design (another feature of XHTML standards compliance)
  • No pop-up windows are activated by this site
  • Header elements are used to denote logical information flow, not merely bold text
  • Foreground and background colors provide sufficient contrast
  • There are no animated GIFs
  • Link phrases make sense out of context
  • The site has a relatively flat design, making a site map unnecessary
  • The site validates to a formal published grammar (XHTML 1.0)
  • Related items are grouped
  • The navigation structure is clear and consistent
  • The latest technology specification is used (ca. 2002)
  • Adjacent links are separated by more than whitespace
  • Logical groups of links are identified and grouped
  • Distinguishing information at the beginning of paragraphs, lists, etc.
  • Navigation bars for easy access to navigation structure
  • Users may customize their experience of the web page (font sizes may be adjusted)
  • Consistent style of presentation on each page
  • Main level navigation is accessible from the keyboard only
  • Logical tab orders are set
  • Alternative information is provided for each javascript
  • Location indicators (breadcrumbs) are provided
  • Use a public text identifier in a DOCTYPE statement
  • Avoid use of obsolete language features
  • Add a descriptive title to links

Implementing these strategies allows burlingtontech.info to comply with Section 508. But more importantly, it allows the site to serve the needs of a wider segment of the public.
